The European Network of Cybersecurity Centres and Competence Hub for Innovation and Operations (ECHO) is one of four pilot projects under the European Commission’s H2020 Program. The ECHO consortium comprises partners from different fields and sectors including health, transport, manufacturing, ICT, education, research, telecom, energy, space, healthcare, defence & civil protection.
The main objective of ECHO is to strengthen the proactive cyber defence of the European Union, enhancing Europe’s technological sovereignty through effective and efficient multi-sector and multi-domain collaboration. The ECHO in Action event will be the inaugural event where we will be demonstrating ECHO’s assets and showing our European partners and local stakeholders what Bournemouth University has to offer.
The agenda for the week will be as follows:
Monday 5th December 2022: Launch conference with talks from ECHO partners, ENISA, Accenture, Dorset County Council, ESET, and the Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT) among others, there will also be a panel discussion with opportunity for questions and Lunch and refreshments will be provided. This will take place in the Student Hall, Talbot House
This will be followed by our Human Factors final year and Master’s students conducting tabletop exercises with the ECHO partners to evaluate the ECHO Early Warning System (E-EWS) components.
Tuesday 6th December 2022: We visit BAE Systems at their STEP facility in Christchurch and our final year Business IT students will present their value proposition and market launch ideas for some of the ECHO tools and prototypes to their clients (the ECHO partners who developed the tools).
Wednesday 7th December 2022: Red team/Blue team scenario. The Wednesday event is a showcase of the ECHO federated cyber range (E-FCR), E-EWS and plugins. Here students from our second-year Forensic Computing & Security and Cyber Security Management courses will defend the E-FCR infrastructure against an inter-sector attack. Guests will be invited from local industry to participate and play team leads or they can just join the fun and observe. This will take place in PG13, Poole House, Talbot Campus.
In the evening, there will be a placement networking event where local employers will do a 2-min pitch about their placement opportunities to students, followed by a ‘speed-dating’ style Q&A session. This will take place in Fusion Building at Talbot campus.
The whole event aims to demonstrate some of the tools and prototypes developed as part of the ECHO project, in addition to giving students and guests an opportunity to gain insight into the work completed by ECHO and the need for actionable cyber threat intelligence.
