Helen Thackray presented a talk called “Hackers gonna hack: But do they know why?” in the Social Engineering Village at DEF CON 25 in July. The annual hacking convention, held in Las Vegas, is one of the biggest in the world, with last year reaching attendance of over 20,000 people, whilst the SE Village is one of the most popular villages, specialising in all things related to social engineering.
Helen discussed the role of social psychology in cybersecurity, specifically the influence and importance of group processes and social identities within hacking communities, as well as her own research on the topic.
The talk is available to watch on YouTube here.
