right to privacy. \u00a0Unfortunately, for charities working with those with temporary or permanent mental ailments, collecting and processing personal data leads to a fundamental dilemma. \u00a0Complying with GDPR might harm their clients, e.g. failing to share information with a health practitioner that could save someone&#8217;s life. \u00a0Not complying leads to financial penalties that that might cripple their charity, or lead to a loss of client or donor trust.<\/p>\n<p>Following a Charity Impact funding award from BU, <a href=\"https:\/\/jhenriksenbulmer.wordpress.com\/author\/jhb13\/\">Jane Henriksen-Bulmer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/staffprofiles.bournemouth.ac.uk\/display\/sfaily\">Shamal Faily<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/staffprofiles.bournemouth.ac.uk\/display\/rali\">Raian Ali<\/a> are working with a local charity to help them prepare for GDPR. \u00a0We are using new research developed by Jane to support the process used for this GDPR implementation, and are using <a href=\"https:\/\/cybersecurity.bournemouth.ac.uk\/?page_id=62\">CAIRIS<\/a> to support this process.<\/p>\n<p>We will be sharing the results of our work at a one-day workshop in June. \u00a0If you work for or with local charities, and are need help getting ready for GDPR, you can sign up for free <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/gdpr-for-charities-how-to-conduct-a-dpia-tickets-45476422203\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most companies around Europe are preparing for the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which will enforce all EU citizens&#8217;
